200 years at SABC

We thank God for His goodness to us throughout the last 205 years since SABC was first formed. We celebrated our 200th birthday over the weekend of June 24th to 26th 2005 when many came to join us for the various services that were held.

We met together for an informal supper on Friday 24th June. After a lovely buffet supper two friends with longer memories than most, Barbara Ward (above left) and Mervyn Goodwin (Above right), recalled events of their youth at SABC during and just after World War 2. The evening was concluded by our very own 'boy' band Born in a Barn (below) who sang beautifully and as always looked very dashing! We asked God to bless the rest of the events planned for the weekend.

On Saturday 25th June we were delighted to have Helen Shapiro at SABC for a powerful evening of music and testimony. Helen pulled no punches in her presentation of the gospel explaining how discovering Jesus as the Messiah actually was the fulfilment of her Jewish faith and the endorsement of the Old testament prophesies. She challenged everyone to take the same step of faith that she had back in 1987 by committing their lives to Jesus. A number of people went forward to meet and pray with Helen at the end of the evening and we rejoice that people became christians. Helen continued to talk with and pray with people for two hours after her presentation had ended. We praise God for all of the 280 people who joined us and it was a delight to see the chapel full.

On Sunday 26th June we rounded off our weekend with services led by our former pastor Richard Underwood when we considered how we should never underestimate Jesus and that the future is not what it used to be! Thanks to all who joined us for these services or indeed for any of our celebration events. We now look forward to the next 200 years in the service of Jesus Christ.
